Tara and Binod's organizations, (VCN) mindset, and we agree, that despite the huge needs in many places, we have chosen to mostly focus on long-term efforts in a few places, supporting and preventing problems for young children.

UPDATE JANUARY 2020 - Unfortunate Tara's and Binod's working situations have changed, they are not able to continue their volunteer work to the same extent as before. VCN as an organization has ceased.

Today, we have ongoing discussion with Lions Club in Nepal to continue the help projects for the children. Update will come in the near future.

Gyan Bikash School

The earthquake had completely destroyed Gyan Bikash School and with the help of residues, pieces of paper and plank, tarpaulins of what once was the school, "sheds" were built into "classrooms". This to be able to continue some kind of education for the 38 students at the time. The condition in these so called classrooms were bad. During the rainy seasons, it rained onto ground floor so the children had to sit in mud and often snakes found their way in. It became very cold in these "rooms" during winter seasons and in the summers it was far too hot. VCN has a cooperation with Global Giving, an organization from the UK. Global Givings Phase 2 project at the Gyan Bikash School (where we are now trying to help with lunch meals), they have built real classrooms  that are weather resistant and able to stand earthquakes better.

VCN has also establish a collaboration with local hospitals, such as Iwamura, with free health check-ups for both children and their mothers, as well as repeated education in health.
